With our wedding day upon us shortly, there are a lot of details for us to think about. We have flowers, food, reception, music and gifts. The list goes on and on. However, one tradition to me is very important and I do not want to gloss over it. And it is the traditional celebration of the unity candle.
When I was a child and attending wedding, I was always fascinated by wedding unity candle. I would see the two married couple take two different flames and light a single candle. I thought that was so neat and so sweet. Only after I grew up did I understand what I really meant. It is supposed to symbolize the union of the two different people into one single entity. And with the flame burning brightly, it does just that.
When I tried to shop for unity candles in the store, they were very hard to find. So based on a suggestion of a friend, I tried to shop online. I found an assortment of personalized unity candles. I like how you can have your name, place of marriage and date and gloss onto the candle itself. It sure makes a great keepsake of the big wedding day. I asked my husband to be what color he wants it. But he really does not care. Since the color of my wedding is blue, I think a light gray unity wedding candle with baby blue wording would look great. Not all I need is to find those long matches to light the unity candle when the big day comes.
